ALA Election Results
The results of the 2006 ALA Election are in. Congratulations to Loriene Roy, who was elected ALA President by a landslide, and to Councilors Mark Rosenzweig, Ginny Moore, and David Easterbrook.
I find it worth noting that conservative blogger Greg McClay, who campaigned hard to be the sole voice of the activist conservative constituency in American librarianship on Council, received the fewest votes of all.

He probably thinks it is part of the great commie-pinko-liberal- leftist-progressive conspiracy to take over the world. Of course, it could be that most ALA members are to his left politically and socially.
I think it probably is wrong to call him conservative…he is far worse.
He wrote a great deal about how wrong it was for ALA to vote against the use of torture. Yet he is what New Hampshire-ites call a chickenhawk.
Chickenhawk n. A person enthusiastic about war, provided someone else fights it; particularly when that enthusiasm is undimmed by personal experience with war; most emphatically when that lack of experience came in spite of ample opportunity in that person’s youth.
Blogger Greg McClay has blogged against multiculturalism, gay rights, and the SPECTRUM scholarship program. I don’t know any librarians who share the level of intolerance for which he declared himself the spokesman.

I noticed that in his blog he said I got it wrong – that he didn’t campaign to represent conservative librarians but mainstream librarians who were disaffected with ALA and its political stances.
That may be whose votes he hoped to attract, but that doesn’t mean it’s who he would actually represent, that representing them was his goal. Kathleen is right about his actual agenda.
